RADIO STARS JOIN RAF TO LAUNCH UK TOUR

Comperes joined RAF musicians at the RAF Club in London to launch the forthcoming concert tour by the Bands of the Royal Air Force entitled Unsung Heroes.

At the launch were BBC Radio 2 broadcasters Ken Bruce, Alan Dedicoat and Lynn Bowles with musicians from the Central Band of the RAF, Sgt Jimmy Gribbon and SAC Josh Hayward.

Concert Organiser Philippa Hayday-Brown said the programme of music will turn the spotlight of those members of the Royal Air Force who work behind the scenes to make the RAF such an effective force.

She said: "We hope the concerts will give people an opportunity to reflect. Visitors will have the opportunity to record the names of friends, family and comrades who served in the RAF in a special Unsung Heroes' Book of Remembrance that will be kept at the RAF's spiritual home – St Clement Danes Church in London, after the concert tour."

The 13-venue tour, held in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, begins in Birmingham on October 26.

Compering duties on the tour will be split between BBC Radio 2 broadcasters Alan Dedicoat, Ken Bruce and Lynn Bowles (check venue for details). The concert will be conducted by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs, the RAF's Principal Director of Music, and will feature soloists Flight Lieutenant Matthew Little and Joanne Pullen.

Each concert will feature one of the main RAF Bands: The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, or the Band of the Royal Air Force College, augmented by the big band sound of either the Squadronaires or Swing Wing.
