CELEBRITY GOLFERS RAISE OVER £40,000

Celebrities, professional golfers and guests gathered at Goodwood this month to play a golf tournament to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain; proceeds from which were given to the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.
The Tournament, organised by a 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain Committee helped by Jackie Alliss Promotions and sponsored by Barclays Bank, drew together 22 celebrities including Bruce Forsyth, Jimmy Tarbuck and Anton du Beke, who gathered at the Kennels before playing the Goodwood Downs Course.
Unfortunately, the weather prevented a flypast by the Red Arrows in the afternoon and a display by the Spitfire in the evening, but this didn't dampen spirits and all 22 teams completed the entire course before a champagne reception at Goodwood House. This was followed by an elegant dinner in the Regency Ballroom hosted by Lord and Lady March, after which there were speeches and the prize-giving, culminating in an auction presided over by Willie Thorne who, as auctioneer, raised over £11,000.
Altogether the event raised £41,742 for the Charitable Trust. Air Chief Marshal Sir John Cheshire, Chairman of the Trustees, said "We are enormously grateful to all the celebrities and guests for participating in this magnificent day and for their exceptional generosity."
