PRINCE HARRY DROPS IN ON CADETS

Prince Harry, who is Patron of the Cadet 150 Expedition to Lesotho, visited the Cadet Training Centre at Cwrt-y-Gollen, near Cricklehowell, last week where he met 60 cadets from all 3 Cadet Forces who were attending their final training session.

In 2010, the Cadet Forces of the United Kingdom are celebrating 150 years of unbroken service to our nations' youth with a programme of special events and activities called Cadet 150.  Central to the celebrations is a unique 3 week expedition to Lesotho.  In addition to experiencing the physical and mental challenges of a trek through the Drakensberg Mountains, the cadets will be involved in a range of adventurous training activities, as well as community project work helping the orphans and vulnerable children of Lesotho, developed in collaboration with the charity Sentebale.  The charity was founded by Prince Harry and Lesotho's Prince Seeiso to help the forgotten victims of poverty and of the HIV/Aids epidemic ravaging the country.

Prince Harry dropped in on this final training session and posed for this photo while meeting all the cadets.  He also took time to sign the cast of Cpl Charlotte Wilkinson-Burnett from 1181 (Syston) Sqn ATC who had broken her wrist playing hockey.

The Trustees of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust have generously granted funding for each of the Air Cadets towards the kit and equipment they have to provide for the expedition.

The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust is the parent charity of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, which organises the Royal International Air Tattoo.  During the past four years, the Charitable Trust has supported Air Cadet projects and initiatives to the tune of £700,000. These include funding expeditions organised through the Ulysses Trust, flying scholarships and training equipment.
