Broke FMX

 
After wowing the crowds in 2010 we were delighted to announce the return of the riders from Broke FMX. Visitors were amazed as this freestyle motorcycle stunt team took them through their dazzling routine of heart-stopping aerial tricks, backflips, rock solids and the gravity defying 'kiss of death'.

Schools Build-a-Plane challenge 

  
Located near to Fairford in Stroud, Marling School took part in the Royal Aeronautical Society's 'Schools Build-a-Plane challenge' and unveiled their aircraft in the TRI@RIAT area at this year's show. The Build-a-Plane challenge aimed to create a greater understanding of aviation and engineering in young people promoting a greater take-up of science and other technical subjects.

The Lockheed Martin Human Immersive Lab

Visitors had a chance to explore a virtual reality environment inside the belly of the F-35 jet fighter. Visitors found themselves interacting with the Weapons Bay of an F-35 Carrier Variant and explored how this plane is considered the next generation air superiority fighter.

Field Gun Competition 

  
The Royal Air Force were pitted against the Army in an amazing demonstration of supreme fitness, speed and agility as the teams race to achieve the fastest time in an old favourite from the Royal Tournament, the Navy Field Gun Competition.

Black Eagles

  
The Black Eagles presented a show combining stunning acrobatic skills, energetic dance and an uplifting African Musical sound track, in performances that were both enjoyable and breathtaking. The Black Eagles are originally from Tanzania, East Africa, where they learnt their acrobatic skills on the streets of Dar-es-Salaam. They have toured extensively in South Africa with the Brian Boswell Circus in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, before coming to the United Kingdom as the Black Eagles. 

The Animal Bike Tour

Europe's No.1 mountain bike freestyle team made their Air Tattoo debut this year. Mixing the incredible skill, control and balance of former World Champion trials rider Martyn Ashton with the spectacular aerial style of one of the world's most exciting jump riders, Blake Samson, visitors watched them in the Animal Arena as they amazed and astounded with a wild ride of twists, turns and flips.

Imagineering

Imagineering, organised by the Imagineering Foundation, returned to this year's Air Tattoo with fun, excitement and fascinating hands-on activities to engage youngsters of all ages. There was something for everyone, with opportunities to see at first hand some of the fascinating technology used in modern manufacturing and defence that affects our every day lives – engineering that is rarely seen by most of us.

Army Paintball Target Range

Visiors had the chance to test their shooting and agility skills to the maximum with our unique paintballing experience.

Paratower

It stands more than 60ft high and is the closest thing to doing a parachute jump without getting on board an aircraft!

The state of the art Paratower utilises the same fan technology used to film the bungee-jumping stunt in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace and for military parachute training.

"At jump school, in Brize Norton, we use the same kit to practice landings and how to exit an aircraft, so this is giving people a real taste of what we do. You're strapped into a harness on a safety wire, with the fans blowing to give the impression of air resistance and falling, and then you just jump. As you step off, you're falling at 30mph and get a second of freefall, but the landing is like stepping off the Yellow Pages!"  C/Sgt Bell

Bringing science to life!

With over 300 hands-on exhibits to explore, live shows and a Planetarium, At-Bristol is one of the UK's biggest and most exciting interactive science centres.

At-Bristol brought the Altitude – fantastic flight experience to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2011!

There were lots of fantastic facts and plenty of experiments to set minds soaring. At-Bristol was all about getting hands-on so there were lots of activities for families including our try-on airplane wing, wind and smoke machines, plate spinning plus visitors were able to make and test their own stomp rockets – chocks away!
