GRIPENS SPICE UP FLYING DISPLAY

A tasty trio of Swedish fighters have added to the smorgasbord of aviation delights taking part in this weekend's Royal International Air Tattoo.
Three Gripen fighter planes from the Swedish Air Force touched down at RAF Fairford this afternoon after flying in non-stop from their home base at Satenas in Western Sweden. The aircraft belong to the Skaraborg Wing which is named after an old Swedish county, itself named after a well-known fortress just outside the city of Skara.
The Gripens are built in Sweden by Saab and have been sold to several countries including South Africa, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
The Gripen is one of several modern jet fighters which will be shown off in the skies at the Air Tattoo this weekend. Others include the RAF's Eurofighter Typhoon, the United States Navy's F/A-18 Super Hornet and the United States Air Force F-22 Raptor.
Tickets for the show are still available from branches of Barclays Bank, Tourist Information Centres, Little Chef restaurants in Cirencester, Burford and Buckland (Faringdon), Londis in Fairford & Lechlade, Fairford Post Office, Thamesdown Transport at Swindon Bus Station, and First Great Western (when purchasing a combined Admission, Train and Bus Ticket).
