DYSON CLEANS UP IN FAST JET

INVENTOR Sir James Dyson swapped vacuum cleaners for fast jets on Friday, as he was flown thousands of feet above the Cotswolds as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

The industrial designer swapped his boardroom for the cockpit of a Breitling jet, flying in formation with six others and performing some of the impressive aerobatics that will be on display this weekend at the Air Tattoo.

Sir James, who lives at Dodington Park, Gloucestershire, said: "It was just incredible. I didn't realise you take off in formation and we were so close, just a couple of metres apart.

"It felt very calm but I was still very nervous to be flying so close to everybody else. I have enormous praise for the pilots to be able to fly just two metres apart."

Sir James has tried wing walking with the Breitling team before and he jumped at the chance when he was offered a flight in one of their fast jets.

"The Breitlings and the skill of the pilots are just amazing, and we had amazing views of the Severn Valley and Gloucestershire," he said. "I never realised they did these difficult manoeuvres in formation and it was all very unnerving . . . but incredible."
