Distances
Please be aware that the Royal International Air Tattoo Showground covers a large area and is approximately 2 miles in length. The Disabled Enclosure is located approx. 20 – 25 minutes by foot from the Red Public Entry Point, approx. 15 minutes from the Blue Public Entry Point and approx. 5 minutes from the Green Public Entry Point. The Public Entry Point is where tickets are checked and access is gained to the showground.
There is a large amount of hardstanding along the Showground where the static aircraft are parked however there is also a grassed area between the hardstanding and the crowd line which can be uneven and not practical for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Air Tattoo Showground Shuttle Bus
The free Showground Shuttle Bus runs at regular intervals throughout the day and some of these buses will have low floor access. Those arriving in the Red car parks should (where possible) use the Shuttle Buses to get to the collection point for mobility scooters and wheelchairs and the Disabled Enclosure which will be located next to a bus stop.
PRE-BOOKABLE FACILITIES
Disabled Enclosure
The Air Tattoo provides an Enclosure for disabled visitors which must be booked in advance as places are limited. The Enclosure is on hardstanding, has crowdline access, disabled toilets, tables & chairs and is managed by a WRVS Support Team. Please note the Enclosure has no sheltered area.
The disabled person and their carer have free admission to the Disabled Enclosure. If extra tickets are required for the Enclosure there is a cost of £12.50 per person aged 5 years and over.
The Disabled Enclosure is now SOLD OUT for Saturday 7 July 2012.
There is a Showground Shuttle Bus Stop within a 3 minute (approx) walk from the Enclosure. There will also be a member of the WRVS with a golf buggy available to transfer people with mobility difficulties from the Bus Stop to the Disabled Enclosure.
Mobility Scooter/Electric Wheelchair Hire
We have a limited number of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs for hire. These need to be booked and paid for in advance.
The collection point is situated next to a Bus Stop on the Showground Shuttle Bus route for easy access.
Designated On-Base Disabled Car Park A designated on-base (hardstanding) disabled car park is available on the Green entry route ONLY for blue badge holders that have applied for and received an Air Tattoo Disabled Parking Permit. Spaces must be booked in advance as admission to the on-base designated disabled car park will not be granted without a valid Air Tattoo Disabled Parking Permit. To obtain the parking permit you will be asked to provide some information for security clearance.
The closing date for applications for Air Tattoo Disabled Parking Permits is Friday June 15th 2012, unless all disabled parking spaces have been booked prior to this date. Please be aware that Parking Permits will be sent out after this date, along with directions to the designated disabled car park on the Green route and further information to assist you with your visit.
Please note: disabled visitors arriving on the Red entry route and displaying an Air Tattoo Disabled Parking Permit cannot be guaranteed access to the on-base red car park. Directions to the Green on-base disabled car park will be sent out prior the event and should be followed to avoid the above situation.
Disabled visitors arriving by car and displaying a blue badge but NO Air Tattoo Disabled Parking Permit will be directed to the front of each public car park where a designated parking space will be available, however this could be on rough terrain (grass) and some distance from a public entry point.
