AIR TATTOO STRIKES GOLD AT AWARDS
Organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford are delighted that the airshow has won 'Best Event of the Year' in the 2012 Cotswolds Tourism Awards.
The Royal International Air Tattoo, which raises money for the Fairford-based Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, is not only one of the Cotswolds' biggest outdoor events but also serves as an important showcase for the Royal Air Force and the world's aerospace industry.
Air Tattoo spokesman Richard Arquati said the award reflected the incredible effort put in by staff and volunteers to stage the most exciting airshow in the world each July.
He said: "Over the years, we've found that for many of our visitors, the Air Tattoo has provided a gateway to the Cotswolds – introducing them to the beautiful countryside and the many wonderful places to visit. We have heard many stories of people who've been to the Air Tattoo from around the country – and abroad – returning to enjoy longer holidays in the area in order to make the most of what's on offer."
Judging was carried out by a confidential, impartial panel selected for expertise in relevant areas.
Cotswolds Tourism Manager Chris Dee said: "The Cotswolds thrives on the high quality of local tourism businesses and services. These awards reward our achievers and help us to highlight the best of what's on offer here."
This year's Air Tattoo, which takes place on July 7&8, will see the event join with the RAF to stage special aerial tributes celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Mr Arquati said: "Although we're still four months away from the airshow, we've already secured an incredible line-up of exciting aircraft that will be unrivalled anywhere else in Europe this year including the first display outside of the Middle East of the United Arab Emirates' aerobatics display team Al Fursan."
Special Air Tattoo 'Earlybird' tickets, priced £34, are available until the end of March from airtattoo.com or by calling 0800 107 1940. All accompanied under-16s go free. Free parking.
