International Air Tattoo's RAF Village is a showcase for those personnel and
their equipment that enable air and space power. The displays represent a Service in
constantly high operational demand, with a highly talented, trained and
motivated work force.
As the RAF moves ever closer to its centenary anniversary in 2018, it celebrates its many achievements in terms of Air Power, world class technological capability and training and innovation.
Once again, the centrepiece of the Village is the mighty A400M Atlas transporter from LXX Sqn, RAF Brize Norton. This versatile aircraft is one of the newest in the RAF fleet and was borne from a collaborative venture involving six European countries. Take the opportunity to climb on board, learn about its various roles and talk the crews that fly it. You can also meet some of the RAF Display Teams set to wow the crowds, and this year sees a special display from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight who celebrate their 60th Anniversary.
Also celebrating their 75th Anniversary are the personnel of the RAF Regiment. Force Protection is a critical requirement for the successful delivery of all forms of expeditionary military power, to counter threats and hazards. See the range of RAF Regiment equipment from a classic Rolls-Royce Armoured car to the 21st-Century Foxhound vehicle. Alongside the RAF Regiment you'll be able to meet personnel from the RAF Police, Mountain Rescue Service and Fire Service.
All personnel operate in a different dimension of range, altitude, and time from sailors and soldiers - and often at very high speed. This demands specific skills and expertise. But it's not all work and no play; new to the Village this year is a display of the various sports that can be undertaken when away from the work place; athletics, rugby, football, motorsports; and Wold-class Luge and Bobsleigh. From just keeping fit to representing your country, there's something for everyone; take time to talk to the athletes.
The RAF Village provides a unique opportunity for you to meet over 200 RAF personnel from both the Regulars and the Reserves who will look forward to sharing with you their day-to-day roles and how this links in to maintaining our defence capability and projecting air power for the UK. The RAF provides an attractive, varied and unique career opportunity with over 60 different job roles and apprenticeships available. If you are up for a challenge and would like to learn more and explore your options, then find time to speak to our careers team who will be located near Chinook CH47 experience and the immersive Skytech cyberspace simulator. For the younger generation seek out the climbing walls and simulators operated by the RAF Air Cadets who also provide exciting opportunities and activities as part of local squadron in every region of the UK.
With so much on offer over the weekend we look forward to welcoming you to the most diverse RAF Village yet.
