Slovenia Returns to Air Tattoo

The Slovenian Air Force has confirmed it will be joining us this summer, sending two aircraft for static display and one for the flying display.

The relatively small Balkan air arm will be sending two examples of the Pilatus PC-9M Swift, one each for the flying and static displays, and a Let L-410UVP Turbolet for the static park.

The PC-9 is a popular single-turboprop trainer and light attack platform produced by Swiss manufacturer Pilatus. Slovenia has operated the type since 1995, buying an initial three examples, followed by nine more from 1998. A total of 11 are currently in service, all but two in upgraded PC-9M form. The type is known as the Hudournik (Swift) in Slovenian service. The camouflage worn by the aircraft denotes its status as Slovenia's most potent fixed-wing asset, operated largely as a trainer but also possessing an armed capability. Cerklje ob Krki is the fleet's home base.

Only a single L-410, recently re-painted in an all-over grey scheme, is on the strength of the Slovenian Air Force. The twin-turboprop light transport was built in Czechoslovakia and has seen extensive military and civil service in central and eastern Europe.

2015 sees Slovenia's return to the Air Tattoo after several years' absence, and we're delighted that another of Europe's smaller air arms should again support the show so enthusiastically.
