JRPSS scholar gets 'over the line' to become a qualified pilot
Published: 12 Dec 2016
Congratulations to Junior Rank Pilot Scholarship Scheme (JRPSS) scholar, Senior Aircraftsman (SAC) Aaron Garcha who gained his Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) earlier this month.
SAC Garcha, based at RAF Akrotiri as an Air Traffic Control Assistant, achieved his licence through RAF Brize Norton Flying Club after being selected for the Trust-sponsored JRPSS. RAFCT chairman, Air Marshal Sir Kevin Leeson met with SAC Garcha on his flight back to RAF Akrotiri to congratulate him on his achievement, before visiting the cockpit of the 10 Sqn Voyager to chat to the crew.
SAC Garcha said: "November was a busy and exhausting month with lots of exams and testing, lots of travelling and lots of flying, but the hard work has paid off. On December 1 I successfully passed my final test and qualified as a pilot. I am grateful for everyone's support, including the incredible RAF Charitable Trust for opening these doors and making this possible.
"This isn't the end for me - it's just the beginning. Achieving my licence has shown me that, with a little determination and the right support, you can achieve anything."
SAC Garcha was selected for the JRPSS earlier this year, before being chosen to receive a further Top-Up grant to supplement his flying experience. The application window for the JRPSS 2017 is now open to serving RAF Regular and Reserve Junior Ranks (JR) across the UK. Applications must be submitted before January 31 2017, after which 30 successful candidates will be selected to receive flying training. Find out more at www.jrfly.co.uk/
