American Eagles Join the Show

Published: 16 Jun 2016

F-15s from the 48th Fighter Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk will be joining the static aircraft line up at Air Tattoo 2016. Two F-15C fighters from the 493rd Fighter Squadron (FS) along with a single F-15E Strike Eagle from the 492nd FS, will be making the short journey to RAF Fairford.

The F-15A model entered service in early 1976. Soon it and the two-seat F-15B conversion trainer were superseded in production by the corresponding F-15C and F-15D models, with an upgraded radar and greater fuel capacity for improved range. The Eagle has many times proved its worth in combat, notching up over 100 reported air-to-air kills in use with the USAF, Israel and Saudi Arabia. The basic fighter design also spawned the multi-role F-15E Strike Eagle and derivatives.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
