Announcement - Farewells and New Faces

Published: 06 Oct 2016

A number of changes to key figures within our organisation have just been announced. We offer an enormous thank you to those who are stepping down for all their contributions to the Trust and the Air Tattoo over the years. We also extend a warm welcome to the team that are joining us. Details are as follows:

  • Air Vice-Marshal The Hon David Murray has stepped down as a Trustee to become Controller of the RAF Benevolent Fund, a role that will ensure he'll stay close as he continues to contribute his experience within the RAF's family of charities. Replacing David will be Kate Wigston. Chairman of the Trust, Sir Kevin Leeson said: "The Trustees are very grateful for David Murray's excellent contribution to the Trust over the past three years. We wish him well as Controller at the Benevolent Fund and look forward to working with him again in his new role. We are delighted to appoint Kate Wigston as a new Trustee. Kate will bring us the wonderful perspective as a wife of a current senior RAF commander, as a solicitor practising locally and also as a passionate Air Tattoo supporter and aviation enthusiast over many years."
  • Amanda Butcher will be handing over her role as Trust Director to Justine Morton in December after two years as Interim Director. Sir Kevin said: "Amanda has made a fantastic contribution to the Trust, bringing her previous charity experience to much improve the Trust's organisation and processes. She has also been a fantastic supporter to the Trustees helping to shape our strategy. Not wishing to lose her great understanding of the Air Tattoo's culture and the great work of the volunteers from 30 years of support, we are delighted that Amanda has accepted the honorary role of Air Tattoo Vice President. Trustees are delighted that Justine Morton has agreed to become the new Trust Director. As a recent retiree from the Royal Air Force who has worked both in the RAF and Joint organisations, as well as being a chair of a charity and former RIAT volunteer, she brings us tremendous experience to further the work of the Trust."
  • One of the Air Tattoo's longest serving Vice Presidents, Air Vice-Marshal Chris Davison, a former Chairman of the RAF Sports Board, has stepped down. Chris was appointed in 2003 and, along with his wife Rosemary, has been an outstanding supporter throughout.
  • Air Cdre Jon Ager has also stood down as a Vice President but it is not farewell to he and Landi. We are pleased that his move to Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, a longstanding supporter and sponsor of the Air Tattoo, will ensure our strong relationship is maintained.
  • We are delighted to announce that taking up their new roles as Air Tattoo Vice Presidents are Air Vice-Marshal Andy Turner, long-standing volunteer on the team Air Commodore Simon Ellard and Air Vice-Marshal Mike Wigston.
