RAF Chipmunk T.10

The two BBMF De Havilland Chipmunks, which are the last in RAF service, are probably the least-seen aircraft of the fleet. They are used year-round primarily for the conversion and continuation training of BBMF pilots on tail-wheel aircraft. Within the RAF, 'tail-draggers' are now unique to the BBMF and pilots new to the Flight commonly arrive with no previous tail-wheel or piston engine experience.

The aircraft is appearing as part of the Air Tattoo's Cold War Zone.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
