Swedish SAAB JAS39C Gripen

Who better to demonstrate the extreme manoeuvrability of the Swedish Air Force's latest multi-role jet fighter the SAAB JAS-39C Gripen than SAAB's own test and display pilot Fredrik Muchler.

The Gripen (Griffin) is a lightweight 4th generation, single-engine multirole fighter with a swing role capability enabling it to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions within a single sortie. The aircraft scheduled to take part in the RIAT 2012 flying display will come from the Flight Test Centre in Linkoping, Sweden.

The Gripen first flew in December 1988 and entered operational service with the Swedish Air Force in 1997. Last year, five Swedish Air Force Gripens deployed to Sigonella, Sicily, from where they performed a surveillance role in the NATO-led UN mission in Libya.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver
