USAF B-52 Stratofortress

Among the aircraft joining us this summer as the Air Tattoo marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be an aircraft that is itself celebrating 60 glorious years.

The USAF B-52 'Stratofortress' is an aircraft that has become synonymous with RAF Fairford having been based here during the first Gulf War in 1991, the Kosovo conflict in 1999 and the 'second' Gulf War in 2003.

The aircraft, which will be on static display, will come from 307 Bomber Wing, Air Force Reserve Command based at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
