Beechcraft's twin-engined light transports have a long history of development into special missions platforms of one sort or another. Alongside the King Air, the veteran piston-powered Baron, first flown in 1960 and still in production in much-updated form, is today offered as an ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) aircraft for military or civilian/government customers. Its manufacturer claims that the Baron G58 is capable of missions lasting up to six hours, over land or sea. The aircraft can be equipped with an electro-optical/infra-red camera, recording and data link systems, and police/military communications gear. Textron Aviation will bring its Baron ISR demonstrator aircraft to the Air Tattoo.
