BELGIAN AIR COMPONENT NH90 MTH
A long-awaited modernisation of the Belgian military's rotary-wing capability is being provided by the arrival of the NH90, formerly a product of the NHIndustries conglomerate, which is now part of Airbus Helicopters. This multi-role machine is available in two main versions, the TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter) and NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter). Belgium is receiving four of each, though it refers to the TTH as the MTH, or Medium Transport Helicopter. One of those examples, deliveries of which are now complete, will appear in the RIAT static park, contributed by 18 Squadron at Beauvechain. The NH90 as ordered by Belgium has two Rolls-Royce/Turbomeca RTM322 turboshaft engines, and can carry up to 20 fully-equipped troops or 12 stretcher cases. The MTH variant entered service with the Air Component in 2013 and is used for the troop and logistics transport roles, rescue duties and special forces support amongst other missions.
