HURRICANE XIIa 'P3700'
Another Canadian Car and Foundry-built Hurricane, the Historic Aircraft Collection's Duxford-based MkXIIa will be a part of the BAE Systems Village area at RIAT 2015. Built in 1942, it served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in front-line and operational training units, all based in Canada. Having been sold off, much later it was acquired and restored by The Fighter Collection at Duxford, flying for the first time in 1989 and becoming a regular sight on the airshow circuit. The HAC acquired the Hurricane in 2002. It has since made some long-distance airshow 'deployments', notably to Malta (with the HAC Spitfire) in 2005, and Moscow during 2012. For the 2015 season it has been repainted in the markings of Hurricane I P3700, a No 303 (Polish) Squadron mount from the Battle of Britain from which Sgt Kazimierz Wunsche parachuted safely in September 1940 after sustaining damage in a dogfight with a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 109 over Beachy Head.
