SWISS AIR FORCE SUPER PUMA
Aérospatiale developed the AS332 Super Puma out of the original Puma transport helicopter, the major improvements being the use of more powerful Turbomeca Makila engines and a beefed-up airframe incorporating various design enhancements. Now an Airbus Helicopters product, and still being built in modernised EC225 form, it has served extensively with both military and civil operators. The Swiss Air Force operates fifteen AS332M1 Super Pumas, capable of carrying 18 passengers or up to 3,000kg of payload. It also operates 11 AS532UL Cougar versions. Lufttransportstaffel 6 (Air Transport Squadron 6) based at Alpnach is providing a flying example at RIAT 2015. Another will be exhibited in the static park by RUAG Aviation, which conducts engineering, upgrade programmes, system integrations and logistical management for the Swiss Air Force Super Pumas and Cougars. The aircraft participating in RIAT 2015 will be the TH06 upgraded variant.
