Civilian EV97 Eurostar SL, C42B Ikarus

The EV97 is part of a family of light sport aircraft (LSA) manufactured by Czech company Evektor-Aerotechnik. Powered by a 100 horse power engine and with a gross weight of 472kg, the type is used extensively as both a trainer and touring aircraft around the world.

The C42B Ikarus is a general aviation microlight built by Comco Ikarus in Germany. Like the Eurostar it is primarily used for private flying and training.

Both aircraft are visiting the static park of RIAT 2016 as part of the Air Cadet Organisation's 75th anniversary. They are operated by the RAF Halton Microlight Club, based in Buckinghamshire. The aim of the club is to offer affordable flying to serving and ex-serving personnel from the Royal Air Force, Army and Royal Navy.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
