Netherlands Coastguard Do-228

The Dutch Coastguard flies two Dornier Do-228-212 twin-turboprops on various maritime duties - border patrol, environmental and fisheries protection, search and rescue and maritime traffic monitoring. They fall under the administrative control of a Royal Netherlands Air Force unit, 334 Squadron at Eindhoven, but the aircraft themselves are stationed at Amsterdam-Schiphol East. A standard crew consists of two pilots and two observers. The Dutch Dorniers are fitted with side-looking airborne radar (SLAR) and forward-looking infra-red (FLIR) equipment as their primary sensors. One aircraft will be visiting the RIAT 2016 static line up.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
