United States Air Force Europe KC-135R

The static display at RIAT 2016 will be boosted by a KC-135R Stratotanker air-to-air refuelling aircraft of the 351st Air Refueling Squadron, based at RAF Mildenhall.

The backbone of America's air-to-air refuelling fleet has been provided by the Stratotanker since the 1950s. The KC-135R has been updated with more efficient engines, which burn up to 25% less fuel and provide greater thrust. The efficiency of the engines enables the aircraft to offload 50% more fuel on a medium-radius mission. Over 400 of the USAF fleet of KC-135s have been re-engined.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
