Civilian Beechcraft T-6C
The very popular Beechcraft T-6 Texan II family of turboprop trainers and light attack aircraft has attracted numerous customers the world over. The UK was added to that list when Affinity Flying Training Services was selected in late 2014 to provide aircraft to the RAF under its Military Flying Training System (MFTS) programme. The variant in question is the T-6C trainer, which will be known as the Texan in RAF use. Ten examples will be supplied, replacing the current RAF fleet of Shorts Tucanos. An 1,100shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine powers the T-6C to a maximum of 316kt (364mph). The basic flight training regime to be performed by the Texan includes instruction in the advanced principles of flight, how to operate in a combat environment, evasive manoeuvres, flying in combat formations, the development of aircraft captaincy and advanced radio procedures.
