NATO 60th Anniversary

The Royal International Air Tattoo is proud to welcome the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation on the occasion of its 60th Anniversary and will showcase a display of aircraft that represent not only the wide variety of tasks NATO performs, but also illustrate its past, present and future. From its inception, RIAT has been committed to showing the world’s military and industry leaders, as well as the general public, the importance of the NATO Alliance.

This special occasion will be marked by aircraft and aircrew from around the globe coming together to make a spectacular tribute to the core values of NATO: freedom, democracy and security. The Air Tattoo will chart the chronology of NATO’s 60 year history, illustrating its political and military growth alongside its crisis management and peace keeping involvement in the Korean War, Cold War, Kosovo and the current War on Terror.

As part of this celebration, the Air Tattoo will host a number of NATO Tiger Squadrons, which embody the spirit of NATO, and bring unique colour and vigour to the show.

Sea Search ‘09

Maritime Patrol and Surveillance have fast become areas of critical importance to the global community. Whether protecting a nation’s coastal waters or international shipping lanes, preventing illegal smuggling of narcotics or illegal immigration, searching for stricken vessels or rescuing people in distress, the world of maritime aviation has a major role to play. Sea Search 09 will focus on the aircraft and people that skilfully undertake these highly specialised missions.

As modern conflicts become increasingly more advanced, the information that a commander can learn about the scenario before undertaking the mission is crucial. Modern surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, including unmanned systems, are constantly being developed and are in service performing Anti-Submarine Warfare, Anti-Surface-Unit Warfare, Intelligence and Communications Support and Search and Rescue missions. To source and retrieve ever more detailed information, the world’s military and their civilian counterparts are turning to increasingly advanced aircraft equipped with world leading systems.

The Royal International Air Tattoo is proud to be able to salute the role that the brave men and women fill in national and international operations.
