Speed is Snow Worry for RAF Ski Team

The RAF ski team recently attended a renowned speed training camp in Chile thanks to funding from the RAF Charitable Trust.
The £5,000 grant awarded by the Trust enabled 12 personnel on the team to travel to Chile for a high performance speed training camp. The camp, also used by several national ski teams and some of the world's top skiers, provided the team with exceptional facilities and conditions to improve their performance at the Inter-Services Championships.
Whilst in resort, the team also hosted a race between themselves, the Chilean Military and local ski clubs to help improve their competitiveness as well as to enhance their leadership, communication and organisation skills.
Flt Lt Nathan Jones said: "In the past, the training camp has unquestionably enhanced athletes' performances but without the support of the Trust, the junior ranks in the team would not be able to afford to participate. The grant funded flights and in-country transport, reducing the personal contribution of attendees and ultimately, ensure that the camp is affordable to athletes. We're incredibly grateful to the Trust for their support in helping raise the skills and profile of our ski team".
RAF Charitable Trust Director Justine Morton said: "Members of the RAF ski team have not only benefited from high-quality and invaluable training, but the enrichment of personal skills and capabilities developed during their experience has been second to none. We wish the team the best of luck in the Inter-Services Championships!"
