Rugby team gives new kit a try

Published: 17 Mar 2017

The RAF Regiment Rugby Union Corps team have kick-started their season with brand new kit, sponsored by the RAF Charitable Trust.

Players in the newly formed team are hoping to make their mark as they begin preparing for upcoming fixtures in high-quality, branded training kit, funded by the Trust. The £2,280 grant was agreed by Trustees as they recognised the benefits of the sport on personnel and the importance of having the correct kit.

The team of 22 have already been put through their paces with a robust selection process. Flt Sgt Alan Holmes said: "Both the team and committee would like to thank the Trust for passing this grant as it's extremely important to have the right training kit for our players, ensuring their safety and efficiency as they prepare for matches.

"The players have already shown a great deal of effort and dedication to be selected for the team and we hope that by providing them with the equipment and support they need, they will continue to show this level of dedication whilst also being able to enjoy the sport.

"We have a number of extremely experienced coaches on the committee and will also be calling on top level coaches from Premiership rugby teams at future training camps to build on the team's potential success and develop those aspiring to make the selection.

"Being a member of the RAF Regiment Rugby Union team is not only great for developing physical and mental robustness of the players, but it will also help to build trust, cohesion, commitment and team spirit."

The RAF Regiment Rugby Union Corps team played their first match against the RAF Fire Service at RAF Halton on February 16.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
