Grant Helps Team Take Another Shot at Title

Published: 04 May 2017   updated: 09 May 2017

Trust funding has triggered RAF Cosford's Field Gun Crew's (FGC) 12th year competing in the annual Royal Navy 'Brickwoods' Field Gun competition.

Ahead of the prestigious competition, held at HMS Collingwood on June 3, the RAF Charitable Trust has sponsored new kit for 70 RAF personnel who comprise the FGC.

The grant, totalling £4,390, has been used to purchase branded running and social tops, alongside any additional clothing needed for the event. The new kit will also be worn at multiple competitions throughout the year, including the West Midlands Military Tattoo, Liverpool Armed Forces Day and the team will have a stand at the RAF Cosford Air Day.

WO John Taylor said: "The Trust supported the Cosford FGC with funding back in 2014 and we're really grateful that they are backing us again this year.

"FGC is the only RAF team in the Brickwoods' event and has successfully competed in it since 2005, to the extent that the team receives automatic entry every year. The training required for this competition is not only physical but also positively impacts upon ethos, determination and teamwork.

"We receive very little funding but have a significant outgoing expenditure, therefore this grant is invaluable."

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
