Deployed Personnel Take Fundraising to New Heights

Published: 17 May 2017

Deployed RAF personnel are putting their best foot forward to help raise life-changing funds for the RAF Charitable Trust.

In June personnel from 54(R) and 39 Sqn will be lacing up their boots to take on a gruelling challenge which will see them scale three peaks in Nevada, USA, in just 24 hours.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Summiting all three peaks in one day will be arduous, not just because of the desert environment, but the sheer distance covered and the elevation climbed in such a short space of time. It will be a demanding endeavour, testing the team both physically and mentally.

"We decided to take on the sponsored challenge as an opportunity to give something back to the RAF family and, in particular, the RAF Charitable Trust which has directly supported us as a unit based overseas. I hope people will get behind the challenge and show their support by sponsoring the climb, helping us raise as much money as possible."

To complete the Three Peaks Las Vegas Team Challenge the team will summit Lone Mountain, Turtle Head Peak and Mount Charleston - a total of 7,100ft over 24.5 miles. Sponsor the team HERE

RAFCT Director Justine Morton said: "We're really grateful to the personnel in 54(R) and 39 Sqn who are taking it upon themselves to give something back to the Trust and we wish them the best of luck for the challenge!"

The RAF Charitable Trust, based in Gloucestershire, funds a wide range of projects and initiatives that Promote the Royal Air Force, Support its people and Encourage young people to take an interest in aviation.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
