Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

The history of the RAF during the Second World War and the heroism of its personnel are reflected at countless events around the country every year by the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. At RIAT 2014 will be displayed the Lancaster, that outstanding mainstay of RAF Bomber Command during its night-time offensive against Nazi Germany; the Spitfire and Hurricane fighters that did so much to defeat the Luftwaffe in the air, not least during the Battle of Britain; and the Dakota transport, as employed extensively 70 years ago during the Allied invasion of Normandy. Based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, the BBMF has on strength two Hurricanes and six Spitfires, the single Lancaster and Dakota, and two Chipmunks for pilot training.
