The Airbus A318 is the smallest member of the hugely successful A320 family of twin-jet airliners. It first flew in January 2002, and deliveries began the following year. Since then the A318 has remained quite a rare bird, fewer than 50 currently being in airline service. Two of those fly for British Airways conducting all-business class services between London City Airport and New York's JFK Airport, with just 32 seats - all convertible into fully flat beds - on board instead of the type's more usual 107 to 136. The other main A318 operators include Air France and Chilean carrier LAN.
