The famous Boeing Stearman Model 75 biplane trainers played a notable part in World War Two, training many thousands of Allied aviators in the USA and Canada. Post-war the type became a popular aerobatic and 'barnstorming' mount. Tracey Curtis-Taylor chose a newly-restored 1942-vintage ex-US Navy example for her epic two-month, nearly 10,000-mile flight between Cape Town and Goodwood in honour of pioneering aviatrix Mary, Lady Heath, who had made the trip from the South African city to London using an Avro Avian biplane back in 1928. This Tracey, an accomplished pilot of various vintage aircraft, completed successfully on New Year's Eve 2013. She will bring the Stearman to the show for static display, her third consecutive appearance at the event.
