Japan was the second customer for the Boeing KC-767, a civilian 767 airliner modified for use as an air-to-air refuelling tanker. Delivered in 2008, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) has acquired four aircraft in its fleet, operated by 404 Hikotai at Komaki Airport (also known as Nagoya Airfield). The JASDF uses the KC-767J for passenger and cargo transport, as well as supporting the air force's frontline fighters with refuelling via the boom method (suitable for aircraft types such as the F-15 and F-16).
