Full Scale Replica: Tempest

Visitors to RIAT 2019 will be able to take a seat in what a future aircraft flown by the RAF could look like.

A concept model of a future combat aircraft, known as Tempest, will be open to the public on all three days of the show, with visitors invited to take a seat in the aircraft's cockpit. Tempest will be located in the Blue Zone near flag number 5 and the Breitling Boutique.

There will be members of the BAE Systems team on hand to talk to people visiting the model about the work it is involved in to create the technology which could go in to a jet flown by the RAF's pilots of the future.

BAE Systems, the headline sponsor for this year's show, is part of a group, Team Tempest, which is working on technologies from robots which can work alongside people to build a jet through to virtual reality which can beam displays in front of the pilot's eyes through their helmet.

Together with industry partners Leonardo, Rolls-Royce and MBDA, they are working in partnership with the RAF to develop the technologies they believe will be necessary to lead the development of a future combat aircraft which will could be used by the RAF potentially until 2080.

But, if the UK are going to be able to deliver another engineering feat on a par with Concorde, Team Tempest needs thousands bright minds ready to become the engineers, manufacturers and operators - they're looking for Generation Tempest.

If you think that could be you, make sure you stop by and see them at the Air Tattoo!
