Commercial Events Assistant

The RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises organise a host of aviation related events including the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) that attracts 170,000 visitors for a weekend of spectacular aviation action every year. Our commercial activities enable us to gift our profits to The RAF Charitable Trust in order to foster and encourage an interest in aviation amongst young people and to inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals - whether engineers, pilots or ground crew.

A great opportunity has arisen for a positive talented all-rounder who is enthusiastic, outgoing and result-focused with a knowledge of customer service and sales operations. You'll be assisting with a wide range of exciting tasks to deliver them on time and within budget. A flexible approach to tasks and responsibilities is paramount, along with project planning and strong teamwork ethos, with the determination to succeed.

Your Main Responsibilities:


  • Play a key role in sales, administration and delivery of the consumer related commercial activity that takes place on the public Showground at RIAT
  • Consumer commercial activity Includes trade & exhibitions, themed zones and activities, public catering, sponsorship, brand engagement, and bespoke events and activity
  • Support with the promotion, selling, co-ordination and delivery of Showground commercial activity
  • Support with sales of advertising for the souvenir programme
  • Assisting in identifying and creating new revenue opportunities at RIAT by research, proactive communication and follow up
  • Energetically support trade & exhibitions in strengthening existing and developing new business, with the focus on revenue and profit growth
  • Ensuring that all sales activities are accurately recorded, invoiced, and recorded using Excel based systems
  • Co-ordination of RIAT Showground commercial administration including all insurance and health and safety documentation is received and approved
  • Working closely and supporting the Commercial Sales Manager to ensure successful delivery of all business activities
  • Support with the co-ordination of volunteers in advance and during the show
  • Provide a seamless customer and client experience, ensuring a superior level of customer service
  • Work at RIAT, providing support and co-ordination throughout, with the delivery of all the Showground consumer commercial business activities
  • Co-ordination of the registration pass system for consumer commercial clients
  • Supporting the overall Business Development & Corporate Relations Department to deliver a successful RIAT 2022


About You:



  • Positive can-do attitude, strong teamwork ethos, with the determination to succeed
  • Personable and a natural relationship builder
  • Experience in sales or customer facing roles
  • Experience of Excel and Word to an intermediate / advanced level
  • Strong organisational and negotiation skills
  • Able to prioritise tasks and deliver to agreed timescales and deadlines
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure in a solution-based environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good numerate skills
  • A proactive self-starter with the ability to work on your own initiative



  • Experience of events or the hospitality sector
  • A creative and imaginative approach, happy to contribute ideas
  • Experience of consumer markets

Whilst this role is fixed term, you will be exposed to many different elements in organising the world's greatest Airshow, with a strong admin background this will set you up perfectly for a career in events management or depending on how the role unfolds during the term you may also develop strong sales and customer service techniques.

As the Airshow is an annual event, we like to reward loyalty and hard work. If successful you will likely be contacted for years to come. Many employees in our organisation have started as volunteers or in fixed term contracts.

Salary: £20,800 per annum (pro rata)
