Around 35 people work year round to plan the Air Tattoo. When it comes to delivery, those 35 people are joined by nearly 1,500 more; all of whom do so in their spare time as volunteers. As it's National Volunteering Week, we wanted to celebrate and talk a little about our fantastic team of volunteers! Without the support of our large army of volunteers, the Air Tattoo would not be able to take place.
Andy Armstrong, Chief Executive of the RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises has noted the importance of our dedicated team of volunteers.
"Together, all our volunteers play a significant role in creating the unique Air Tattoo atmosphere that the public have enjoyed since the event was first staged in 1971. Without their skills, experience and generosity it would simply be impossible to stage an event such as ours.
"National Volunteer Week provides me and my small team of full-time staff the opportunity to say a big 'Thank you' to our volunteers. You are the lifeblood of the Air Tattoo and each one is quite literally, one in a million."
And we're not the only ones who are impressed by our volunteers....
The RAF Red Arrows
"Being the largest airshow of its type in the world, the contribution of volunteers at the Air Tattoo is huge. The enthusiasm of these individuals, together with their energy, knowledge and diligence, is obvious to see and makes a tangible difference.
In short the spirit of the volunteers is crucial to the success of RIAT."
RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
"You can't help but notice the smart, cheerful and helpful army of volunteers that make RIAT such a world beating event."
Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter)
"Every year that I have been able to attend the Air Tattoo I have been left humbled by the immense work and preparation that the volunteers put into the event.
They are always professional and courteous, they take their responsibilities very seriously, often going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the weekend happens without a hitch."

As we get closer to this year's show we thank all of our volunteers past and present and we look forward to welcoming back to RAF Fairford.
