NATO Flypast Update

Published: 04 Jun 2019   updated: 11 Jul 2019

We can now reveal more about the special 70th anniversary flypast being planned to showcase NATO's air power capabilities at the 2019 Air Tattoo. This will be the only official NATO flypast taking place at a UK airshow this summer.

Update 11 July

Adding to the NATO flypast is a French Air Force KC-135R tanker aircraft based at Istres in Southern France.

Other aircraft will include F-16AM fighters from the Belgian Air Component, whilst Germany offers a substantial commitment with Eurofighter EF2000s, A400M and Tornado strike aircraft.

The Royal Danish Air Force will also contribute with F-16 fighters, whilst the United States Air Force will be joining the flypast with F-15 aircraft from RAF Lakenheath. The Royal Air Force also plan to provide Typhoon fighters.

This commemorative flypast is due to take place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July. Where the flypast aircraft will operate from is yet to be confirmed, although it is hoped that some will be based at RAF Fairford.

The full list now includes:

  • RAF Typhoons x3
  • NATO E-3 AWACS
  • F-16s x3 (Belgium, Denmark)
  • A400M (Germany)
  • EF2000 (Germany)
  • Tornado (Germany)
  • KC-135R (France)
  • F-15 x3 (USA)

Which aircraft are operating from RAF Fairford?

At the current time all aircraft will be operating from Fairford, apart from the French KC-135R from Istres and the F-15s from RAF Lakenheath. This is unusual for a flypast of this size and will be a fantastic sight to see!

The flypast will be taking place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July and, as Saturday is sold out, your only chance to watch the flypast is to book Friday tickets!
