Colombian T-90 Calima

It may look slight in comparison to some of the military transport aircraft taking part in this summer's Air Tattoo, but don't be deceived.

This new basic trainer from the Colombian Air Force is among the rarest aircraft ever to appear at the Air Tattoo.

The Calima is from Escuadrón Basico 712 based at Santiago de Cali in Western Colombia and is a locally-built upgraded version of the Lancair Legacy FG that entered service as a military training aircraft in late 2010.

This version is only operated by the Colombian Air Force, which has purchased 25 to date. It is believed to be the military aircraft's first appearance outside of Colombia.

The Lancair 320 from which it derives is a fairly common kit-built civilian light aircraft particularly in the USA.
