A large multi-role tanker operated by the German Air Force will strike an imposing figure in the static display at this summer's Air Tattoo.
Based at Cologne-Bonn, Wahn Airport as part of the German Air Force's Air FBS BMVg (Air Transport Squadron), the A310 MRTT (Multi-Role Tanker Transport) is a military derivative of the Airbus A310 passenger aircraft.
The MRTT is capable of air-to-air refuelling of all military aircraft utilising hose and drogue refuelling systems, such as the Tornado, the Eurofighter Typhoon and F-18 Hornet.
The aircraft can also be readily converted to an all-cargo transporter, a medical evacuation (medevac) aircraft and an all-passenger transporter as well as performing a combined VIP, passenger and cargo transport role.
Although the aircraft is no longer in production it is still in operation with the German and Canadian air forces.
