A vintage aircraft that helped open the door to business aviation will be on static display this July.
Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Beechcraft Model 18, or Twin Beech as it is better known, first flew in 1937. By the time construction of the aircraft ceased in 1970, 32 variants had flown and around 8,000 aircraft built.
This beautiful 1959-built silver Beech G18S variant, which is registered in the US as N45CF, is based in Switzerland and is owned by enthusiastic Air Tattoo supporter Carlo Ferrari. It has featured in two Hollywood movies: Captain America (2011) and A Different Loyalty (2004).
Private owners of the Model 18 have included Dwight D Eisenhower and Otis Redding.
In addition to flying passengers, the aircraft's roles have included photo reconnaissance (F-2 military variant), air ambulance (Model 18R) and as a trainer.
