German Air Force C-160D Transall

Buy Tickets

Now very much a veteran of the Luftwaffe, the twin-turboprop C-160D Transall (its name a contraction of the name of the Franco-German consortium that produced it, Transport Allianz) soldiers on as a vital asset, even 51 years after the first prototype's maiden flight. Lufttransportgeschwader 63 at Hohn, the Luftwaffe unit sending a Transall to RIAT 2014, is one of three wings still flying the type in Germany - it specialises in medical evacuation missions alongside more standard troop and cargo transport. The type will be replaced by the Airbus A400M, but has remained busy on taskings in support of German forces around the world, not least in Afghanistan.
