As part of the Polish Air Force's post-Cold War modernisation, a number of Western types have been acquired to replace their Warsaw Pact-era predecessors. The transport fleet has seen much renewal, typified by the acquisition of the Airbus (formerly EADS CASA) C295 twin-turboprop, now in service to the tune of 16 examples with Poland's 13th Transport Squadron at Kraków. Poland thus became the largest operator of the transport variant, and was its first customer after Spain, where the C295 was developed.
