The Grob G120TP turboprop trainer will provide the elementary phase of the UK's Military Flying Training System (MFTS) programme. A total of 23 examples will be supplied by contractor Affinity Flying Training Services, the first two having been delivered to RAF Barkston Heath, Lincolnshire, in November 2016. In British service the type is known as the Prefect. It has a 456shp Rolls-Royce M250 engine, which powers the G120TP to a top speed of 245kt (282mph). In the Prefect, trainees will be taught the fundamental principles of flight, how to deal with emergencies, aerobatic manoeuvres, formation flying, aircraft captaincy, basic radio procedures and rear crew skills.
