Turkish Favourite Returns!

Published: 12 Apr 2018   updated: 23 Apr 2018

The Turkish Air Force's F-16 demonstration display, known as SOLOTURK, returns to the 2018 Air Tattoo once again, to the delight of many airshow goers.

Captain Erhan Gunar, who graduated from the Turkish Air Force Academy in 2005, leads the 2018 season as 1st demo Pilot with First Lieutenant Serdar Dogan acting as 2nd pilot. Between them they will put the F-16C Fighting Falcon through a dynamic display at RAF Fairford this summer.

The team's F-16 Fighting Falcon jet is painted in a striking design, featuring a gold eagle to represent the insignia of the Turkish Air Force. The stripes represent the high speed at which the aircraft can fly, while the star and crescent underneath also feature on the Turkish national flag.

Friendship between the Turkish Air Force and the Air Tattoo goes back many years and the Eastern European air force regularly participates in the airshow.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“Probably the most complete air show Iíve ever been to!”

Al Worden, Apollo 15 Astronaut

“This is THE best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
