FRIAT Member's Granddaughter Pays Tribute

Published: 17 Aug 2018

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is sad to announce that long-standing FRIAT (Friends of RIAT) member, Edward Reynolds passed away during his visit to the Air Tattoo last month.

Edward Reynolds - known by friends and family as Eddie - died peacefully on July 11, having watched the aircraft arrivals at the Air Tattoo.

Eddie was a FRIAT member for over 25 years and stayed at Kempsford Campsite for the week of the airshow.

As his granddaughter, Kirstie recalls: "He would always make sure that he booked his FRIAT tickets as soon as they became available online!"

Eddie's enthusiasm for the Air Tattoo was fuelled by the opportunity to meet current pilots, collect memorabilia and take photos - particularly of the Vulcan Bomber, Su-27 and the B-1B bomber, all of which were favourites of his.

He shared his love of aircraft and RIAT with his friends - many of whom he made through FRIAT - and his family, who all gained a great interest in aircraft through his many stories.

Despite his health deteriorating, Eddie still managed to attend this year's airshow where he was able to watch the arrival of the Japanese C-2 and B-1B bomber from the comfort of his caravan, the day before he passed away.

From everyone at the Air Tattoo, we offer our condolences.

'Eddie was always a get up and go kind of man. He would always know how to make you laugh and smile and would always have a story to tell. He was very much a likeable man and loved to be known as a living legend - rest in peace.' - Kirstie Smith, Granddaughter.
