Air Tattoo Supporter Sir Michael Marshall

Published: 29 Jul 2019   updated: 28 Jan 2020

We were deeply saddened to hear that one of our longest serving Honorary Vice Patrons, Sir Michael Marshall, died on Saturday evening while on holiday in Spain. Sir Michael's support to the Air Tattoo goes back to 1979 when the Marshall Group sponsored a Hercules Industries Team, and has been unrelenting every year since. When our organisation needed a new home in 1999, he again was a great supporter which is marked to this day by our conference room being named 'Marshall of Cambridge'. Sir Michael and his company were at RIAT 2019 only last weekend. He will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

The memorial for Si Michael Marshall, Honorary Vice Patron of the Air Tattoo, took place at Ely Cathedral on Thursday 16 January.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Former Formula 1 Racing Driver

“Probably the most complete air show I’ve ever been to!”

Al Worden, Apollo 15 Astronaut

“This is THE best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
