F-35B Flypasts Confirmed

Published: 24 May 2019   updated: 28 Oct 2019

We are delighted that the Royal Air Force have confirmed the F-35B will perform a flypast at the 2019 Air Tattoo. The F-35B debuted in the UK at the Air Tattoo in 2016 and was joined by aircraft from the United States Marine Corps and F-35As from the United States Air Force, six of the jets having crossed the Atlantic to take part in RIAT 2016. Since those initial appearances we saw the appearance at RIAT 2018, as part of the RAF100 celebrations, of an RAF Marham based, 617 Squadron F-35B. The aircraft took part in the spectacular Dambusters flypast alongside the BBMF Lancaster and a single Tornado GR.4 also from RAF Marham.

Based at RAF Marham, the F-35B is the short take off and vertical landing variant of the F-35 and will be operated from the Royal Navy's new HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carriers. The RAF is currently undertaking its first overseas exercise with the F-35B, Exercise Lightning Dawn, having flown six of the type from RAF Marham to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus earlier this week. The aircraft will spend the next six weeks operating from Akrotiri.

This year's F-35B flypasts will take place on the Friday and Saturday of the Air Tattoo. We are also planning two other special flypasts for Sunday and more information will be released as soon as we can.
