5 Moments We've Loved From the Red Arrows' North American Tour
Published: 17 Oct 2019 updated: 03 Feb 2020
We can't believe that the Red Arrows' North American tour has now come to an end. It only seems like yesterday that we waved them off on their big adventure on the Sunday of the Air Tattoo. Whilst we're happy to see the team come home, we're also a little sad that we can't keep up to date with their adventures across the pond. So we thought we would take a look back at our five favourite moments from their momentous tour. It was very difficult to whittle down all the amazing things they've done to just five!
1. Red Arrows and the Thunderbirds in New York City
Not long into their tour, the Red Arrows joined the Thunderbirds in a 19 aircraft flight down the Hudson River and around the Statue of Liberty. Not only were they joined by their American counterparts, but they were also followed by two F-35 Lightning II's and a pair of F-22 Raptors.
2. The amazing flypast over Niagara Falls
What a backdrop for a Red Arrows flypast! This is a moment we're sure they won't forget in a hurry.
3. What a view over the Golden Gate Bridge
Another day, another famous American landmark to fly over! We loved seeing this footage of the team flying over the Golden Gate Bridge.
4. Visiting Miramar
For any aviation fan visiting Miramar is on the top of their dream list. We weren't surprised to hear that the team are just as big fans of the iconic movie Top Gun as we are!
5. Mount Rushmore Flypast
We can't imagine there's a better way to see the iconic Mount Rushmore than in a Red Arrows Hawk! What a fantastic way to bring to an end a momentous and successful tour.
Touching down in Scamptoon, Squadron Leader Martin Pert, Team Leader and Red 1, said: "It's great to return home after one of the Red Arrows' biggest and most high-profile overseas tours ever, representing both the Royal Air Force and the United Kingdom."
After covering over 22,000 miles and 74 days away, we think the team deserves a good rest and a British cup of tea!
