Grant is Helping Cosford 'Students' to Soar

Funding from the RAF Charitable Trust (RAFCT) has enabled RAF Cosford Wrekin Gliding Club to provide 15 gliding bursaries for the 2017/18 gliding season.
Personnel from phase two training courses up to the rank of corporal were eligible to benefit from the bursaries, which are designed to inspire airmanship whilst also encouraging team work and physical fitness.
The RAFCT grant, totalling £3,037 is helping give students easy access to the sport of gliding, covering the cost of a full year's membership, a reference book, 10 flights in various gliding aircraft and a certificate of achievement upon completion.
Flight Lieutenant, Alastair Cooper said: "Last year, eight bursaries were awarded so it's fantastic to gain the funding to almost double the amount for this coming season and we're grateful for the Trust's support to enable this."
"The scheme is a great way to introduce new entrants to the Service or those in junior ranks at RAF Cosford into becoming more airminded, whilst also developing personal skills such as confidence, team work and initiative. We look forward to fostering new gliding talent."
