Lauren's PPL Dream Comes True!

Published: 19 Oct 2017

Congratulations to Lauren Simms, last year's recipient of the RAF Charitable Trust Flying Excellence Award, who this month achieved her Private Pilot's Licence.

As part of her award, Lauren, a member of 992 (Malmesbury) Squadron, received a flying bursary from Lockheed Martin, which helped towards the development of her flying skills. She was recently presented with her licence after passing her PPL skills test at Tayside Aviation in Scotland.

Lauren said: "I'm so grateful to the RAF Charitable Trust for helping me on my way to achieve my dream. I couldn't be more excited - all the hard work has finally paid off!

"I loved every moment of my flying in Scotland, it is such a beautiful place to fly, and Tayside once again was such a friendly and welcoming place to train. My favourite flight by far was my Qualifying Cross Country, a solo route of 164 miles where I landed at two different aerodromes - I absolutely loved it and felt like a true female aviator!"

RAFCT Director Justine Morton said: "Lauren's passion for flying has been truly inspirational and we hope this is merely the start of a very exciting journey for her. Lauren has always been very generous in acknowledging the charity's role in helping her achieve her dream and she is a wonderful example of how the Trust is using aviation to make a difference to young people's lives."

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
